Surrey’s Jolene Skawski is the third-place winner in Speak Up’s #15seconds4change Instagram contest.
This contest was part of a campaign to open the conversation about what mental health is, reduce its stigma and to recognize it and how it affects daily life.
More than 130 entries were received from throughout B.C.
Her winning entry was a post speaking about her feelings after a stressful event and how the little things can change a perspective.
“Changing the way we talk about mental health needs to start somewhere,” said Skawski. “And I was very excited to see it happening over social media. We all need to take a moment to look at our own mental health and realize that we all experience it in some way or another.”
