It’s been almost a year since Baikie Island nature reserve was officially opened to the public, and now’s your chance to take a guided walking tour with Jim Van Tine.
Former manager of the Quinsam Hatchery, Van Tine specializes in estuary and foreshore restoration – and was intimately involved in the restoration of Baikie Island.
The amazing transformation has been shortlisted twice for national reclamation awards.
Van Tine will lead several walking tours of Baikie Island this summer and fall.
Sign up now for the Aug. 13 tour to learn about the history of the nature reserve and to get an up-close look at the plants and animals that now inhabit what was once an industrial site.
The Baikie Island Nature Reserve was officially opened on Rivers Day in 2012 after years of reclamation work to return the industrial site to its natural state.
The free tour takes place from 10:30 a.m. until noon.
Participants should wear good walking shoes and come prepared for the outdoors. Pre-registration with 48 hours notice is required.
