Mary Alice Wood of Langley has won $10,000 for her cheese soufflé recipe.

Langley’s Mary Alice Wood’s love of cooking has won her $10,000 for her cheese soufflé through Chatelaine magazine’s Astro Original recipe challenge.

She’s never been trained as a chef.

“I saw the contest advertised and I just love cooking at home and trying different things so I entered a cheese soufflé using Astro’s plain yogurt. It actually makes it taste a lot cheesier,” said Wood.

Her recipe will appear in a recipe booklet that goes alongside the December edition of Chatelaine.

“It’s pretty wonderful,” said Wood about seeing her recipe in Chatelaine.

She hasn’t decided what she is going to do with all that money.

“One of the suggestions they made was to go to Italy and enjoy the food there, so I might do that,” she said.

This isn’t the first big food contest she’s won.

“I won a trip to Switzerland for making a bread with Swiss cheese,” Wood said.

“That was really great.”

Likely, this won’t be the last cooking contest she wins.

“I like entering contests and I like cooking.”
