What does food production have to do with climate change?

This Friday (Feb. 18) the Quesnel Climate Action Group (CAG) is hosting a screening of the documentary Fresh, which is a positive, inspiring look at how farmers are working to re-invent our food system for a healthier, more sustainable future.

This film has been billed as the positive, solutions-based next step to the popular Food Inc.

The CAG is a diverse group made up of concerned and motivated citizens looking to create a more sustainable future for Quesnel.

They are focused on positive solutions, enhancing our sense of community and local initiatives. The group is broken down into four sectors: food, transportation, energy and community awareness.

Members choose to be involved in the sectors they are most interested in. Several projects are underway, including the documentary series which continues in the coming months.

They’re working on garnering support for a transferrable license

plate initiative, a way to encourage people to use a second, fuel-efficient vehicle without having to insure two vehicles; a community compost pilot project; a Share the Road project to increase safety for local cyclists and more.

CAG is currently planning a regional forum to share with other groups in the area and find out how we can help each other.

The film starts at 6:30 p.m. in the music room at Correlieu senior secondary school. Admission is by donation (the money helps fund film screenings.)

Fresh is around one hour and 15 minutes long, and following it the group is holding their monthly meeting.

Everyone is welcome to stay for the meeting. For information, call 250-992-5833 or bces@telus.net.
