The Community Arts and Crafts tent at the Sooke Country Market is a co-operatively shared space every Saturday from May through October. The Community Arts and Crafts tent provides an opportunity for local crafters and artisans to easily showcase their products without a big investment.
Some people may not have enough stock to rent their own market space or be able to spend every Saturday at the market or are unsure about promoting themselves, so with the help of seasoned vendors they can participate, test local interest in their new product and engage in social networking on a face-to-face level. The variety of products each week keeps things interesting and it’s great when a new vendor is successful enough to expand into their own tent.
“The Community Arts and Crafts table at the Sooke Country Market is the perfect set up for new artists. I started in June last year with an idea and used the Community Arts and Crafts table as a way to test out my products. It was a great experience with very little expense, just a $5 fee each day. I was able to determine if I had a product people liked and if vending at a market was for me. The Community Arts and Crafts table is the best way to try out the market!” Charles Wainman of Sooke Sculptures now vends a full table at the Sooke Country Market.
Weekly participants at the Community Arts and Crafts tent may share the space, set up and display their wares, stay at the market to promote them and help dismantle the tent for a $5 per week contribution toward market costs. For those unable to stay at the market, $10 per week allows for their products to be promoted without their personal time investment.
We welcome hand made products of retail quality and abide by a “good neighbour” policy of fair pricing and limiting “same product” competition. If you’ve always wanted to “give it a try” then here is your chance to expose your product to a local and tourist audience, meet up with friends and neighbours and enjoy yourself as a market vendor.
If you’re interested or have questions about participating please feel free to contact: Susan Percival :susanpercival@shaw.ca”
