The fifth annual Winter Solstice community celebration The Return of the Light is Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Errington War Memorial Hall (1390 Errington Rd.).

Admission is by donation.

The solstice cedar-bough walk and dance of universal peace is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cedar spiral walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the dances will be between 7:15 and 8:30 p.m.

The spiral cedar walk is an ancient tradition for solstice and people carry candles through the darkness of the spiral walk on the darkest night of the year.

Afterwards, people will join together with dances of universal peac, from simple circle dances and song, honouring all the world’s spiritual traditions.

Usually 60 to 100 people take part in this community event. Children are welcome to take part in the circle, but are free to leave if they get restless. No experience is necessary.

Dances of universal peace are done worldwide as a way to inspire peace, build community and honour spiritual wisdom and traditions. The dances and songs are easy to learn.
