Not every kid is artistic and some are not super athletic, but there is sure to be something for everyone at the Sp-Arts summer camp starting July 9 at the Coombs Fairgrounds.
It’s the first time the Sp-Arts (Sports and arts)summer camp has been offered and coordinator Kim Longmuir said it is an exciting way to combine sports and arts.
“We want youth to come and experience some things they may never have tried before. Even just singing into a microphone or using the drums at The Soundgarden,” she explained.
Youth aged from nine to 15 are invited to come and join in the fun, July 9 to 12 and take part in the sports and arts focused camp offered Monday to Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m.
It will be facilitated by professional and enthusiastic instructors including Kathy Dutton and Sharon Tomczyk.
Youth will have the opportunity to write songs, paint and play instruments in The Soundgarden where Tomczyk will share her passion for music.
They can also play a variety of games such as basketball, floor hockey, and badminton in the Arrowsmith Hall and enjoy outdoor activities and games.
Dutton will oversee the sports activities and Longmuir said there will be no pressure for the participants when it comes to the games.
“The kids who are not sporty may want to play some badminton or have a softball game. It’s a chance for them to try new things and step a bit out of their comfort zone,” she admitted.
She said the week will end with a showcase of shared talent and activities.
“We will celebrate everyone’s accomplishments,” she indicated.
