The Chemainus Harvest House Food Bank shelves are filling thanks to a hugely successful food drive in Chemainus on May 7.

Dianna Smith, chair of the board for the food bank, said they collected around 1,000 lb. during their annual Fill the Bus campaign.

“We are very thankful and appreciative of everything the community is doing,” said Smith. “We are very blessed.”

And while the drive was a successful one, Smith said the need is increasing with the economy still in recovery.

The food bank serves from Peerless Road to the far end of Westholme Road including Penelakut Island, Saltair, Mt. Sicker and Crofton.

The food bank is located in the basement of the United Church on Willow Street in Chemainus. It is open Fridays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

There is a second depot in Crofton on Joan Avenue in the All Saints Anglican Church. They are open every Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
