DID YOU KNOW: Growing community capacity

A Community Conversation will happen at the Mission Leisure Centre Feb. 29

Did you know that the number of youth who reported experiencing caring neighbours in a 2008 survey of 2,100 Mission high school youth was 32 per cent?

The number of youth reporting neighbours taking responsibility for monitoring young people’s behavior was 39 per cent.

Think about the neighbourhood in which you live. Were you welcomed when you moved in? Do you welcome others when they move in? Do you ever feel isolated from the folks next door or the people on your own street? In an era where time is limited with our own families, how do we reach out to each other?

Youth have much to contribute to their communities. The broad and growing field of community development focuses on supporting public citizenry to grow change. Mission is alive with innovative, volunteer-based community development projects and working groups spread throughout the community.
