The Chase and district community came out March 2 to support the seven candidates vying for the honour of being crowned Miss Chase.
The Miss Chase Excellence banner presentation featured a scrumptious pasta dinner prepared by Pam Hartley.
Past Miss Chase Princess, Shelby Penttila was the mistress of ceremonies and performed her duties well.
Penttila introduced the current royalty – Miss Chase Faith Kurucz, Miss Chase Princess and Congeniality, Ashley Arnouse and, the two Chase representatives, Danielle Andrade and Alara Lorimer.
Each candidate was then presented with their sponsor banner: Brenna White – Miss Legion Ladies Auxiliary Br. 107, presented by Anne Lamoureux; Darci Phillip – Miss Neskonlith Indian Band, presented by Judy Deneault; Savannah August – Miss Rotary, presented by Lori Berrigan; Kiana Arnouse — Miss Adams Lake Indian Band, presented by Donna Jules; Shyleigh Thiessen — Miss People’s Food and Drug, presented by Jenny McLeod; Naomi O’Dine — Miss Lions Club, presented by Alice Shelest; Kate Milner — Miss Safety Mart Foods, presented by Linda Kynoch.
Each girl practised her public-speaking skills by presenting 10 facts about themselves. Next they modelled a uniquely designed apron which they had decorated themselves.
Auctioneer Rich Weins helped raise funds for this program by auctioning off each apron to the highest bidder.
Family and friends raised the roof by bidding on their favourite apron.
These funds will be used to pay for the new shoes and ‘tea outfits’ that will include jackets, skirts and blouses.
Unique to the community is the Corporate Challenge apron auction which pitted the Chase Fire/Rescue, Safety Mart Foods, Elegance by Tralee, Adams Lake Indian Band, Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Miss Chase Excellence, Chase Victim Services, Darion Kurucz and the Rotary Club against each other.
Once the bidding ceased, the Rotary Club, having put up the most money, retained their bragging rights and won the coveted Tim Hortons mug.
The Miss Chase Excellence committee is grateful to the Village of Chase, parents, grandparents, sponsors and all other supporters for making the evening an enjoyable community fun event.
Funds from this event also covered a February trip to the Vernon Winter Carnival by the present royalty and the seven new candidates.
The candidates encourage Chase residents to attend an entertainment and fashion evening at 7 p.m. April 6 at the Chase Community Hall. Miss Chase will be crowned April 27.
