Local autism fundraiser Fran Duncan reports that tickets are selling for the annual Beer and Burger for Autism night at White Spot at the end of the month.

Duncan has been out in front of major grocery and liquor stores in Parksville and Qualicum Beach raising awareness and funds for autism.

She is often out on nice days, but is specifically committed to be at the BC Liquor Store in Parksville Aug. 24-25 and at Qualicum Foods Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

Duncan has canvassed for autism for years, and is captain of Team Aidan’s Avengers which takes part in the Walk Now For Autism in September in Vancouver, where her grandson Aidan lives and suffers with the disorder.

Duncan, her husband Bob and family fundraise through the year and she was cited as “a long-time supporter of Autism Speaks Canada” earlier this year.

Though she does it mostly to raise awareness, they raised over $4,500 last year through things like their ongoing bottle drive. There is an “autism” account open at the Parksville and Qualicum Beach bottle depots.

The Monday, Aug. 7 evening at the Wembley Mall White Spot will include a 50/50 draw, silent auction and other prizes. Tickets are $20 with half going to autism.
