A group of 10 volunteers with the Summerland Dog Owners Association held a Pick Up Poop Party this past weekend at Sunoka Beach.

The goals of the group are for dog owners to be able to get to know one another, while at the same time being positive role models in the community, as well as building better relationships between those residents who own dogs, and those who do not.

Pamela Ayotte said that the motive behind the clean up of the beach was not only to act as “good samaritans” but to “set an example for residents and to clean up the beach areas before the tourists arrive.”  She also added that people watching the volunteers cleaning up were more inclined to remember to pick up after their own dogs.

The next Pick Up Poop Party (PUPP) is scheduled for April 28 at 1:30 p.m. at Peach Orchard Park.  All Summerland dog owners are invited to come out and participate in the clean up.
