It’s been a busy week of earth-friendly events for Summerland residents with more to come during the weekend. Summerland’s week long celebration represents one of Canada’s largest Earth Week events.
The challenges facing our society require action, and participating in Earth Week is a positive step towards our commitment of reducing community greenhouse gas emissions in Summerland.
On Saturday April 23, children will be delighted by the many choices of events, including Earth Day Fun at the library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Families are welcome to come listen to stories and participate in activities to learn about the importance of water.
From there, head over to Imagination Station at the Summerland Arts Centre where children can make a family friendly craft to celebrate Earth Day from 1 to 3 p.m.
Also in the afternoon, visit the Summerland Museum grounds from 1 to 4 p.m. to view the entries for the museum’s photography contest, which challenges our Summerland youth to take photos of environment-related subjects.
The week will culminate with the 10th Annual Earth Day Celebration on Sunday April 24 at Peach Orchard Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Enjoy getting your hands dirty for a good cause.
Native trees and shrubs will be planted along the Okanagan Lake foreshore near the boat launch.
A display area will feature information on endangered wildlife and habitats, landscaping with native plants, invasive species and more.
Earth Week is about residents of Summerland and surrounding areas coming together to have fun and learn more about what they can do to make a difference.
