One of The Old School House Art Centre’s (TOSH) more innovative fundraisers, Art in the Attic is the year’s best bet for collectors and those looking to make a little cash off of art they no longer want.
The annual event runs from March 17 to 30 and provides the most eclectic variety of art ever seen under one roof.
TOSH executive director Corrine James said it is a great way for people to get rid of art they no longer love and its a nice way to recoup some funds.
“We get everything under the sun. It is fun to come and buy something because prices are reasonable. As the event goes on we lower the prices,” she stated.
James said the annual garage sale has had up to 400 pieces come in which are then hung from floor to ceiling in all three galleries.
“We have had Rembrandt etchings, a Ted Harrison original painting one year … amazing things; wildlife artist prints, local photographs, we never know what we are going to get,” she admitted.
Under the format, sellers get 60 percent and TOSH gets 40 percent. Prices are set by the sellers but James said, when asked, the art house will provide guidance to the worth of particular pieces.
On Saturday, March 17 people can bring in the art work from 10 a.m. until noon and after that it is a matter of seeking out a new treasure among the hundreds of pieces on display until March 30.
James said sometimes people buy something one year and then bring it back the next year to re-sell it. She agreed it’s a good time to change up your art work because there are some great bargains to be had.
“By the end of the second week we are at rock bottom prices.”
