The Father Daughter Ball is a special evening for girls age six and up to enjoy a formal dinner and dance with their fathers.
“There is something unique in the father-daughter bond,” said Craig Goplen, who took his two daughters, now grown up, to the ball when they were at home. “It’s kind of magical for them to pick out their dresses and go out to dinner and a dance with a band with all of their fathers’ attention.”
The Father Daughter Ball was started 17 years ago by the Vernon Kiwanis Club as a fundraiser for local children’s charities and is now sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and Silver Star Rotary.
With the help of local businesses, which donate donate merchandise for the silent auction or cash, the event can provide scholarships, school barbecues, educational exchanges, leadership training, donations to food banks and youth programs. Local organizations which benefit include Teen Junction, Okanagan Science Centre, the North Okanagan Hospice Society, Vernon Jubilee Hospital, the Community Dental Access Centre, Santas Anonymous and others. All proceeds remain in the Greater Vernon area to benefit children and youth.
The Father Daughter Ball takes place Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. at the Best Western Vernon Lodge. It includes dinner, a dance, portraits and a silent auction. Tickets are $135 per couple with tickets for additional daughters or friends $50 each.
