Watch and Green lakes are a few kilometres east of 70 Mile House and are a haven for year-round recreation enthusiasts.
Visitors and locals alike enjoy the clean, clear lakes surrounded by tall evergreens and fluttering aspen trees.
One can enjoy water sports, fishing, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, bird watching or just taking in the peace and quiet the area offers.
There are endless winter activities, including ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and sleigh rides.
Green Lake is 13 km off Highway 97 from the 70 Mile House turnoff. The lake is 14 km long and 120 feet deep. It is a popular family vacation lake, with four provincial parks where one can spend the day boating, picnicking, swimming and camping.
Watch Lake is 30 km from 70 Mile House via North Green Lake Road. The lake is five km long and 35 feet deep and has numerous bays.
It is a perfect lake for canoeing, and boasts eight-pound-plus rainbow. Powerboats are allowed on the lake, but there is an eight-km/h speed restriction.
Visitors will also find many guest and working ranches, as well as resorts with accommodations, such as cabin rentals, camping, RV sites and a bed-and-breakfast.
• The annual fishing derby is held on the first full weekend in June at Watch and Green lakes.
• Gymkhanas (games on horseback) are held on the second Saturday in July and August at the grounds just west of Little Horse Lodge. These games are based on riding skills, horsemanship and are lots of fun for both competitors and the spectators.
• The annual Cariboo Country Night is held on the second Saturday in September.
