Gardeners it’s time to get your green thumbs busy for Fair weekend

Flower Section at North Thompson Fall Fair embracing this year’s theme, “scarecrows and/or heavy horses

By Diane Bloomfield

Co-convenor,

Flower Section, North Thompson Fall Fair

The Flower Section at the 2016 North Thompson Fall Fair will be embracing this year’s theme, “scarecrows and/or heavy horses.”  This will provide many opportunities for our exhibitors to come up with new, unique and entertaining ideas for their creations.

A heartwarming class in our section this year is the new Miss Kitty Memorial Wheelbarrow Contest sponsored by Miss Kitty’s family and the Barriere IDA Pharmacy. Unfortunately the contest did not get listed in the initial printing of the catalogue but the rules are: decorate your wheelbarrow in any way you wish so long as there are flowers involved and you include the current theme of the fair.  The contest will be judged by the Flower Section Judge and the wheelbarrows will be placed throughout the fairgrounds with flowering assortments of colour, ornamentals and creativity.  A new wheelbarrow is the first place prize, with ribbons to second and third place.

Check out the Flower Section classes in the 2016 North Thompson Fall Fair entry catalogue, or peruse it online at: www.fallfair-rodeo.com.

If you are planting flower gardens or containers you will be enjoying much beauty in your home.  Gardening is a favourite pastime for me, and I am sure for many of you.

When the long weekend in September rolls around and it is Fair time, please check out the Fall Fair flower section in the Exhibit Hall on the fairgrounds.  We as convenors love to see the contestants pack in flowers to be exhibited.

Over the years the flower section has grown and grown, just like the flowers!

The judges very much enjoy coming to our Fall Fair in Barriere to judge this section.  We want to thank all of the wonderful flower growers who have exhibited in the past, look forward to renewing friendships as you return for 2016, and will enjoy welcoming new exhibitors as you arrive with your beautiful and colourful entries.
