The first time I heard of a “garden tour” I was so intrigued by the concept that, with notepad and camera, I have been enjoying as many as possible ever since.
In fact, in fine weather, it’s my favourite form of entertainment.
Seeing mature plants in people’s gardens, as opposed to in pots in a garden centre, is to a plant lover like going on an African safari.
It’s so educational to be able to talk to the garden hosts about unusual plants that strike your fancy and to see plants in artistic combinations that you might never have considered.
There is no better way to choose plants for your own garden because if they thrive in a local garden they are more likely to do so in yours.
This year’s Comox Valley Horticultural Society’s Gardens in Bloom tour is scheduled for June 22 and 23. One of the best things about this tour is that all funds raised go to support garden initiatives in our community.
So mark your calendar and invite a friend to join you. Tickets will be available in early May. For further information visit our website at www.comoxvalleyhortsociety.ca.
