A select number of Delta farms, gardens, orchards and vineyards will swing open their gates to welcome the public in for a peek – and a taste – of what life is like on the farm.
The Delta Chamber of Commerce and Farm Fresh Events are hosting the Experience Delta Farm and Culinary Tour on Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Some of the region’s top farm-to-table chefs will be providing samples of culinary delights using fresh ingredients grown at each farm.
Chefs from Bishop’s, Terroir Kitchen, Grub on Main, Pat Quinn’s, Beach Grove Golf Course and the One20 Public House will be paired with each destination to offer artfully prepared bites showcasing the very best of Delta’s farms and farming families.
“We are proud to use locally sourced produce,” said Scott Pratico, executive chef of Pat Quinn’s Restaurant & Bar at Tsawwassen Springs. “It’s really nice to see an event like this happening in our own backyard, and featuring products from just down the road.”
Participants will visit locations including the Tsawwassen First Nations Farm School, Earthwise Society Certified Organic Farm and Demonstration Garden, Wellbrook Winery, Greystone Stables, Emma Lea Farms, Didar Berry Farm, Westham Island Herb Farm and Angel Estate Winery.
“It a thrill to match these talented and creative chefs with some of my favourite local farms,” said event producer Anne Janzen of Farm Fresh Events. “The 2016 Experience Delta Farm and Culinary Tour will engage the community through the universal language of really good food, and will help showcase and promote sustainable agriculture in an accessible way.”
Visitors have the choice of opting for a self-guided tour, where friends and families can travel the backroads of this historic farming community and visit at their own pace, or jump on an Experience Delta Tour Bus. Bus tickets are available for $29.95 (plus taxes) for a single ticket, or $49.95 (plus taxes) for a pair of tickets, and can be purchase online at www.bit.ly/EDFarmTour
This Sunday’s North Delta Farmers’ Market will feature the return of the Super Thai Food Truck who will create their famous curries using local ingredients and, in honour of the upcoming Farm and Culinary Tour, will provide samples for the very first time.
The market takes place each Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North Delta Recreation Centre, 11415 84 Ave.
