‘Girlfriends’ bring craft sale home

Home-based craft sale provides a ‘personal’ touch in Qualicum Beach Saturday

A group of local women are putting a personal touch to the concept of the craft fair this weekend, when they team up for the Girlfriends Unite Christmas sale at the home of organizer Donna Dash Saturday, Nov. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“It’s just a group of us who like to do crafts,” said Dash, whose “girlfriends” group of artisans includes Robin Brewer and Karina Voitchovsky. “There’s actually 10 of us making contributions to the sale, including some fashions on consignment.”

Dash said she has participated in traditional craft fairs in the past. But she tried some home sales when she lived in Beachcomber and enjoys the more intimate setting of a home sale.

“I like the personal aspect of this,” she said. “It’s just more personal than going into a big hall.”

The sale takes place on Shop The Neighbourhood Day, a national initiative of Yellow Pages meant to support small businesses. The girlfriends also want to benefit the community, and will collect non-perishable food and cash donations for the Salvation Army.

“We put together a beautiful basket of gift items from the participating artisans,” said Dash. “Anyone who brings in a donation for Salvation Army will have a chance to win that gift basket.”

Items on offer include driftwood sculpture, jewelry, paintings, fashions, vintage crafts and a range of holiday-themed decor.

The sale takes place at 1058 Pekin Place in Qualicum Beach, in the Eaglecrest neighbourhood.
