Street View is a technology Google uses to create three-dimensional panoramas of a location, from the perspective of someone exploring that location. Using Google Street View, you can now virtually navigate through a variety of stunning/beautiful landscapes in Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks. Zoom in and out, and explore scenic trails and interesting sites in the parks through a continuous series of linked panoramas, to get a sense of what you might experience when visiting the parks. Google Street View is integrated directly into Google Maps and Google Earth, products used by millions of people in Canada and hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

The three-dimensional images were captured using the Street View Trekker, a backpack mounted camera. Last summer, a Parks Canada employee from Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks packed the Trekker through some of the most scenic landscapes in both parks. These images are now available for Canadians to experience the parks virtually, learn about these special places or plan their visits.

Since starting to work together in 2013, Parks Canada and Google have documented highlights from Parks Canada places across the county and they plan to continue the work adding more to the collection, helping Canadians and the world to connect to our country’s majestic protected areas. Work began at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site and since then over 100 Parks Canada places have been visited and documented. The Google Street View images of Canada’s incredible natural and cultural heritage allows viewers to take virtual tours to explore, appreciate and plan trips with the click of a mouse button or the tap of a touch screen.
