I am not a parent. Sometimes I lament that. I think I would have been a good father. But I am an uncle, and I have close friends who are parents to teens and pre-teens. I love these kids. I also have the privilege of working with teens from time to time. I care about them, yet not, I’m sure, with the same intensity as parents do. February is “Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.”
One in ten high school students have experienced physical dating violence. Factor in psychological and emotional violence and the numbers are one in four.
Each week this month www.faithtrustinstitute.org discusses this important topic through webinars, resources and weekly messages. The Institute does good work, addressing both teen and spousal violence. I encourage you to check out their website. Helping adolescents to build healthy relationships is their business. It’s also ours. Because we love them.
