Well, the tulips are still out. The Tulip Festival at Seabird Island started on April 28 and will run until the blooms are gone. Check it out.
Actually, you could make it part of a “Bumbering Trip” through the Seabird Island countryside. Or, you could drive to Minter Gardens, have coffee or tea at the Garden Restaurant (inside or outside) and take a walk trough the tulips afterwards.
I, myself, have in mind to convince my family to go on a drive to the Kilby countryside, again have lunch there and continue to Lake Errock to see Betty Block’s new art studio. Then, again, you could drive to Harrison Hot Springs (if you do not already) and visit, or take part in the happenings that take place during the month of May.
Take May 19 and 20, for instance, the first two days of the Victoria Day weekend, and visit the Harrison Art Show. Those of you who saw this exhibit before will surely be strongly tempted to visit it again, while first-timers will be pleasantly surprised by what they find. I talked to Marg Doman, the organizer of the show, and she told me that this year’s special guest artist is Richard McDearmid. He will be there on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and share his first book with you. McDearmid has traveled the world extensively and his paintings depict life as seen through his eyes. As before, the show which takes place at the HHS Memorial Hall, features the Cafe de la Paix and serves light food and drinks.
One event I am looking very much forward to is the Community Health and Wellness Fair at the Memorial Hall on May 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. With a full house of committed exhibitors, it will be an interesting place to visit. But, the Fair will also be fun, starting with the Lagoon Loop Run/Walk in the morning. After this, bring the children to the Kids Corner, where they will have fun and learn while you browse through the fair.
Never before has there been as much interest in health and healthy living as now and no wonder health is the most important aspect of our life and to keep and take care of it is well worth the time we spend doing so. The show is sponsored by the HHS Recreation committee and organized by a team of volunteers headed by Elizabeth Mueller, herself a classified yoga instructor and promoter of healthy living.
There will be an event schedule pointing out the many demonstrations, performances and videos which will take place throughout the day, perhaps even a short Sound Healing Concert by Crystal Spirit.
But there is more! Not to forget the Agassiz Monday Painters’ 51st Anniversary Art Show taking place at the Agassiz United Church Hall on Saturday, May 5 from l0 a.m. – 4 p.m. The 51st Anniversary – these people have staying power, do they not! And, of course, the new show at the Ranger Station Art Gallery in Harrison Hot Springs will be well worth a visit. The May Exhibit is featuring Seabird and Chehalis Community Schools Student Show running from May 4 – 27. Come and vote for your favorite artwork. Prizes will be awarded at a Reception on May 20. The public is urged to come and enjoy the efforts of our local, talented students.
Of course, unless you live here, the events taking place in Harrison Hot Springs also require a bit of driving through the countryside, which is part of the fun especially now with the trees in bloom and the spring flowers out. So, let’s “bumber” around — maybe we will even “bumb” into each other, and check out what’s new together. Have Fun!
