Almost 50 per cent of women and 30 per cent of men between the ages of 65 and 75 suffer from high blood pressure or hypertension.
It is frequently referred to as the “silent killer” because there are often no warning signs or symptoms, and many people don’t even realize they have it until it has already started to wreak havoc in their bodies.
High blood pressure can permanently damage your heart, brain, eyes and kidneys, leading to heart attack and heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, vision loss and other health consequences.
With so many people affected by high blood pressure coupled with how harmful it can be to many important systems in our body, there is a great need for ongoing clinical research in this area.
Locally, hypertension research is currently being conducted by The Medical Arts Health Research Group, in cooperation with Dr. Robert Williams, to help advance the treatment and understanding of high blood pressure.
If you have been diagnosed with hypertension, or know someone who has, and you are 18 years or older, you may qualify.
You do not have to be a patient of Dr. Williams in order to participate.
