The Highland Gathering is coming to Ladysmith.And along with the army of musicians, performers and vendors, an army of volunteers are needed to help make the event a success.Naomi Nakahara, with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 171 Ladysmith has been tasked with rallying the troops for the event to take place from June 17-19.Nakahara said she estimates they will need between 60 and 80 volunteers for everything from first aid to water running.The Highland Gathering is a huge event for Ladysmith and will draw in hundreds of people from all over the world.Nakahara said residents are going to want to be a part of this grand occasion.“It is one of those lifetime experiences,” said Nakahara, who volunteered of the Indigenous Games in Duncan and was forever changed by the experience.“It’s one of those things that will stay with you for a while.”Aside from the specialized volunteers, the Legion needs people of all ages and abilities to do everything from filling-in on lunch breaks to running water to other volunteers.“There will be lots of smaller things.”For more information, you can e-mail Nakahara at n.nakahara@yahoo.com or leave her a message at the legion at 250-245-2273 by March 31.
