Dave Hesketh won his fight with cancer and now he’s ready to “fight back” to help others through the Relay for Life.

“I liken the relay to a telethon where teams raise money throughout the year and the relay is a chance for us to come together to share in the celebration, donate to the cause and have a memorable experience,” he said.

As leadership chairman of the Relay for Life taking place in Polson Park June 4 and 5, he’s pleased with the interest.

“We have 26 teams signed up already and our goal is to have 50 teams, the same as we had last year. We have some returning teams and some new ones signed up and there’s always room for more,” he said.

“We’re working with local businesses and supporters to make this a fun and entertaining 12 hours. This is more than an event, it really is an experience. And I know that from personal experience.”

The teams camp in the park overnight and have one member running at all times from evening to morning.

“We still have room for volunteers, for organization, and on the event day. There are so many corporate teams that we would like to see get some challenges going,” said Sarah Pruckl, event coordinator.
