Kager Lake Recreation Site will soon have a new shelter, which will be located next to the Kager Lake parking lot.
Kai Epkens, Burns Lake Mountain Biking Association (BLMBA) director, said the new shelter will have a wood stove and picnic tables, providing a place for people to warm up, boil water or hide during bad weather.
The place will also be used as a registration table for bike camps and other events.
The project is estimated at $25,000. The Bulkley Valley Credit Union recently donated $7800 to support the project and the Burns Lake Community Forest donated $12,500. The rest of the money was provided by BLMBA.
Epkens said BLMBA was able to reduce the cost of the shelter considerably thanks to various donations received from local businesses and community members, including construction material and manpower.
The shelter is being built entirely by volunteers.
Epkens expects the shelter will be completed by mid-August, depending on the weather.
