Learn to be an ancestor detective

South Okanagan Genealogical Society will put on an information session about searching for ancestors.

  • Jan. 31, 2012 4:00 p.m.

Have you wanted to start working on your family’s genealogy?

Maybe you have a box of family papers and just don’t know where to start. Maybe you have already started your genealogy but have hit a few brick walls and you are not sure how to proceed. Maybe you are an experienced family researcher but are looking for some new ideas. Or maybe you would just like to contribute ideas to the discussion.

Kathy Corbett, a former teacher, and Shirley Larsen, an experienced genealogist, are members of the South Okanagan Genealogical Society.

They will be giving a PowerPoint presentation on being an ancestor detective.

They will discuss collecting and saving documents and pictures, organizing information and sharing it, searching the Internet, using pedigree charts and family tree maker programs, interviewing relatives, and collecting, writing and sharing family stories.

This should provide a start for anyone who wants to get started in genealogy and also give some new ideas to people who have already begun their journey into their family history.

This program will be held at the auditorium in the Penticton library on Thursday, Feb 2 at 7:30 p.m.

If you have questions about the program, please e-mail Kathy Corbett at corbettk@shaw.ca
