Libraries encourage kids to savour each word this summer

Barriere

Encourage kids to gobble up some reading this summer! Children will Savour Each Word when they join the 2011 Summer Reading Club for free at your local Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) library. The Summer Reading Club is a fun, flexible program offered at all TNRD Libraries including Blue River, Barriere, Clearwater, Vavenby and Birch Island.

Kids can sign up at their local TNRD Library in throughout the summer and receive a free Reading Record and bookmark, as well as collect weekly stickers.

Younger children can sign up for the Read-to-Me Club to receive a free Reading Record and a crayon.

Check out your local library for fun free programs, contests and displays all summer. Kids who complete their Reading Record will be eligible to receive a special Summer Reading Club medal or ribbon.

Regular reading during the summer helps kids to maintain or even improve their reading and literacy skills and studies show that voluntary reading is the number one factor in establishing good reading habits.

The Summer Reading Club makes reading fun and the staff at your library can help kids find just the right book or magazine from among a wide variety of library materials.

The Read-to-Me Club motivates younger children to want to learn how to read by making reading a fun summer memory.
