Local Celtic band to play Highlands Coffee House

Knacker's Yard on Valentine's Day at Caleb Pike House on Millstream Road

For more than 15 years, Highlands has been hosting what they call the Highlands Music Coffee House on the second Saturday of each month.

This month’s event happens to fall on Valentine’s Day and features local Celtic and English folk rockers, Knacker’s Yard.

These six friends have formed an ensemble, performing music made popular by such musicians as Ewan MacColl, Shirley Collins, Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew, Enoch Kent, Amy Irvine, Paul Brady, and such groups as the Dubliners, The Pogues, Corries, The Wolf Tones, Planxty De Danaan and the Bothy Band, just to name a few.

“Traditional music enthusiasts will appreciate the song-tales of lost love and betrayal, the misdeeds of ramblers and rakes, emigration, hard drinking and hard living, sea shanties and worker’s songs,” says the band’s bio, so the night at the historic Caleb Pike House on Millstream Road is sure to be a good time.

Adults are asked for $5 at the door, and children are welcomed free if they are under 15. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
