The provincial mine rescue competition will be returning to Revelstoke in 2013 after another successful competition in Revelstoke.
This year’s event saw the team’s take part in a variety of challenges, ranging from rescuing a companion from a mine; getting someone out of a downed helicopter, putting out fires, assisting a non-English speaking accident victim and more.
The competition was divided into two parts, with the Highland Valley Copper team from Kamloops winning the surface mine competition and the Nyrstar – Myra Falls team, from near Campbell River, winning the underground mine rescue competition.
The weekend saw hundreds of competitors and their families travel to Revelstoke and represented a boon to the town. The Revelstoke Rotary Club reported record alcohol sales at the two gala dinners held over the weekend.
