Minister appointed at United Church

Rev.David Martyn of Kelowna, has been appointed supply minister at Summerland United Church.

Rev.David Martyn of Kelowna, has been appointed supply minister at Summerland United Church.

Martyn was born in Seattle, but moved to Nelson just before starting school.

He was confirmed at Fairview United in Nelson and decided at age 13 that  he was going to become a minister.

After a few movements and some successes with youth groups, he signed on as the first deckhand of the new United Church Mission boat, the Thomas Crosby V.

After a year’s service on the boat, ministering to the small communities on the coast, he had saved enough to attend the winter course at Naramata Centre. Then he went back to Nelson to receive a degree in sociology and psychology at Notre Dame University. He was now a candidate for the ministry.

He attended Vancouver School of Theology and did student placements throughout B.C., including one at Naramata Centre.

During his time in ministry he spent 11 years in Kelowna.He retired two years ago and lives in Kelowna.
