“Volunteers cast a beautiful shadow.” That is the theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week.
Are you planning an event during the week of April 21-27 to celebrate with volunteers involved in your not-for-profit? People motivated volunteers love to party, so give them one to remember.
Take some great photos of your event and share them, with a brief description, on the Volunteer Central Okanagan Facebook page.
It is a wonderful way to brag about your organization and the local impact being made by your volunteers. Impact statements help describe the ‘shadow’ being cast and this resonates with your task-oriented volunteers.Volunteer BC invites you to post photos of volunteers in action during the 2012/2013 year on their website at volunteerphotocontest.tumblr.com. Prizes will be awarded to the top three photos.
You have until April 15 to nominate that special someone, business or non-profit for a Prime Minister’s Volunteer Award. Recipients receive a medal and certificate from the Prime Minister at a formal ceremony.
This type of recognition is valued most by the influence-motivated volunteers in your group. Three of the possible categories include life-long achievement, emerging leader and community leader.
Providing additional training is an important way to recognize volunteers. Add a speaker to your event. Send a volunteer to a workshop through KCR. Take a volunteer with you to AVRBC’s Conference this May to hear Susan Ellis.
