No smoking in cars with minors

A friendly reminder from your local RCMP that you should think twice before lighting that cigarette.

Corporal Mario Cloutier with the North District West Traffice Services, points out that when you’re in your car, or a motor vehicle in general, it is illegal to smoke when in the presence of anyone under the age of 16.

Lawmakers aren’t just blowing smoke either.

The penalty for not following the law in this case could mean a fine of $109.

Meanwhile, Cloutier is also hoping drivers in general ease up on the gas pedal.

He said in March alone the traffic unit charged eight drivers with excessive speed.

In all cases they had their vehicle impounded for seven days and received a violation ticket with a fine of $368.
