A group of First Nations from different parts of North America is on a seven-month journey that started in Alaska and will end in Panama in November 2016.

Meanwhile, a group of First Nations from different parts of Central and South America is walking from Southern Argentina toward Panama to meet the North American group.

The journey provides a cultural exchange between First Nations from North, Central and South America.

The ‘peace and dignity journey group’ made a stop in Burns Lake on May 26 and proceeded eastbound on May 27.  “It’s a message of hope and bringing people together,” said Daniel Negia, one of the participants. “There’s a lot of things going on in our communities – mental health issues, abuse – and going back to our roots can help fix those traumas.” The peace and dignity journey group started in 1992 and has been making this journey every four years.
