The president of The Vernon MS Society is ordering good weather for the 11th annual Walk/Run/Ride for MS April 17 in Polson Park.
“We’ve had the event in snow and had not many people out and we’ve had it in good weather and had more than 200 participants, so we want good weather so everyone can enjoy the walk,” he said.
The Walk/Run/Ride is the main fundraiser for the society, which has an office in The People Place providing information and education, peer counseling, social events and transportation to appointments.
“People who are newly diagnosed or at any point in MS are welcome to come in and talk. It can take a couple of years for people to get a diagnosis and it can be shocking and overwhelming at first, but it’s not a death sentence, you manage,” said Gendron, who was diagnosed at 28.
The average age for diagnosis is 26 with two out of three people who have MS being women.
The Walk/Run/Ride takes place April 17 at Polson Park starting at 11 a.m. Teams and individuals are welcome. Other groups can take part in the 50/50, keeping half of the money they raise and donating half to the MS Society. Some school groups have done this in the past and anyone who wants to help their own group and the Vernon MS society is welcome.
