The Reach Child and Youth Development Society has reached a significant milestone this month and is celebrating its 40th anniversary as a licensed child care facility in Delta
Since 1959, Reach has been providing services to children and their families at different locations throughout the south Fraser region. Reach has always been guided by two founding principles: to operate in a family-centered manner and be responsive to the needs of their clients.
“Reach Preschool South is proud to have helped nurture children’s growth and development as an integrated part of Delta’s childcare community for the last 40 years,” said executive director Renie D’Aquila. “At Reach Preschool South, children learn through play and prepare for kindergarten in a learning environment that focuses on nature and the outdoors. We appreciate the Province’s recognition of Reach Preschool South with this award and the underlying importance of creating enriched learning environments for children in our communities.
“Many studies indicate that the more attention paid to a child’s early development, the greater the pay-off throughout a person’s entire lifetime,” said Delta North MLA Scott Hamilton. “I think a lot of families owe a great deal to the work done by Reach over the past four decades.”
As part of Child Care Month celebrations in B.C., the Child Care Legacy Awards are being presented to 22 licensed child-care facilities each with more than 40 years of service to children and families in their communities.
There are about 5,000 licensed child-care facilities in communities throughout B.C.
