The call is out. Canadian Cancer Society is asking volunteers to commit to Relay for Life 2013, with as few as 8 – 10 hours a month beginning in January.
Quesnel is pleased to report a new hand on the tiller, with Michelle Godfrey stepping into the Volunteer Leadership chair position.
“We’re looking for new energy, new ideas and a whole lot of new faces in this year’s lead up to Relay on May 25,” Godrey said.
“Volunteers are at the heart and soul of Relay for Life. Without the dedicated team of volunteers in Quesnel, the Canadian Cancer Society would not be able to provide the Relay experience that celebrates those living with cancer, those we’ve lost to cancer and those who are fighting to eradicate cancer.”
She went on to say Relay volunteers can chose which of the four areas they’d be most happy working with including teams, survivors, luminaries and May 25 logistics.
Across the province, 1,000 volunteers are needed beginning in January and another 2,000 volunteers to manage the event days.
In Quesnel, core volunteers begin the tasks of encouraging team participation, working with survivors, organizing luminaries and of course, ensuring Relay day is as smooth and enjoyable for participants and volunteers as possible.
“I’m a volunteer as well, but I can’t do it alone and the Canadian Cancer Society is always in need of people who are willing to share their time, energy and skills for the cancer cause and that includes the premier fundraiser, Relay for Life,” Godfrey said.
With the launch of the 2013 online Relay for Life registration, teams can sign up right now and begin their fundraising efforts.
For those unfamiliar with Relay for Life, it’s a 12-hour fundraising event that takes place in more than 50 communities in B.C. and Yukon as well as across the country. Teams of 10 – 15 people relay to help the CCS fund vital cancer research, support Canadians living with cancer and advocates for public policies to improve the health of Canadians.
