Returning to the homeland
A Clearwater man visits the tiny island off the northwest coast of Scotland where his branch of the McNeills originated
Times editor Keith McNeill enjoys a cup of tea from a terrace overlooking Castle bay on the island of Barra, which is located off the northwest coast of Scotland. According to family tradition, his great-grandfather's great-grandfather (six generations), Frederick MacNeill, came to Prince Edward Island from Barra in 1772. McNeill spent a week on the island during a three-week trip to Scotland recently.
