The Royal Canadian Legion Clinton Branch #194 celebrated its 65th anniversary of operation in 2011.

Currently, there are five Second World War veterans in Clinton, as well as seven veterans of other conflicts.

Anyone who has served or is currently serving in the Canadian Armed Forces can become an Ordinary member. Their family members can join as Associate members and anyone, who does not qualify for Ordinary or Associate membership, can apply to become an Affiliate member if he or she supports the aims and objectives of the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL).

At Clinton Branch #194, members can sign guests in but are responsible for the actions of their guests and must remain with their guest until that guest leaves.

The Clinton Branch raises funds through the poppy sales (which can only be used for specific things as laid out by the RCL Command), the bar proceeds, and activities taken on by the Ladies Auxiliary, such as the meat draw and lotteries.

Funds are used to support the local 4-H group, a grad bursary and sports groups that apply for assistance.

The local facility has recently undergone extensive renovations, including a new roof, new ceiling (that was damaged by water leakage), new furnace and hot water tank and a wheelchair ramp.

The Ladies Auxiliary (LA) is comprised of mothers, wives daughters, and granddaughters of the Legion members, but is also open to women in the community. Women who are eligible to be Legion members may be a member of the LA or both. Auxiliaries support the aims and objects of the RCL and provide financial and volunteer support to the branch and Legion programs.

There are currently five Ladies Auxiliaries in the Cariboo Zone. If even one of them folds, the entire charter will have to fold and there will be no more Ladies Auxiliaries in the Cariboo Zone.

The Clinton LA supports the branch financially, raising money through catering to lunches, teas, dinners, funerals, holding bake sales and the meat draw every Saturday in the Legion.

A bursary is available to family members of Clinton LA members.

The Clinton Ladies Auxiliary is looking for more members. Any one interested can call Christine Stella at 250-459-2731.
