Matthias Bjarnason, 7, is watched over by Dan Struthers, sport fishing ambassador, as he dumps a bucket of rainbow trout off the new fishing float at Diver Lake. The $21,000 float replaces an old float at Diver Lake Park and was a joint project by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C., the Habitat Trust Foundation and the City of Nanaimo. It is part of the Freshwater Fisheries Society’s Fish In the City program to make fishing more accessible. It is also part of the society’s Learn to Fish summer fishing education program for children and families.
