Spot prawns! The Wild B.C. Spot Prawn Harvest celebration started on May 25 in the Okanagan with events and local restaurants featuring spot prawn dishes on their menus.

This Sunday, June 2, the celebration wraps up with their explosive signature event: The Spot Prawn Extravaganza! This fabulous event will be held on the glamourous new lakeside patio (the largest by far in Kelowna) at Smack Dab at Manteo Resort.

A perfect way to spend an Okanagan Sunday afternoon, sampling Okanagan wines paired with delicious spot prawn creations from Okanagan chefs as they battle to win the coveted title of Best Spot Prawn Dish. The winning chef will receive a hand-forged Japanese knife generously donated by Knifewear on Pandosy Street.

Tickets for this event are only $45 inclusive and can be purchased directly at Codfather’s Seafood Market , Discover Wines, Manteo Resort, Metro Liquor and Mosaic Books.

“BC Spot Prawn season needs to be celebrated, it is a kick off to summer. The Spot Prawn Extravaganza is an opportunity for the chef’s to show off local ingredients with great West Coast seafood,”  says Manteo Resort’s executive chef Brad Horen.

Eleven restaurant stations will each be preparing a unique spot prawn dish paired with one of 11 local wine (or beer) stations. Guests will meander under the Okanagan sunshine, glass of wine in hand, from station to station to taste each chef’s unique interpretation of this sweet prawn while chit chatting with fellow local food lovers.  It is an afternoon not to be missed.

Care to create your own interpretation of this sweet local prawn? Pop into Codfather’s Seafood Market on Gordon Drive and pick up a fresh bag full to cook at home. There are some delicious recipes posted on the Spot Prawn Festival website along with further details about the event. www.okspotprawnfestival.com.

Profits from the Spot Prawn Festival will be donated to both the Okanagan Chef’s Association and Ocean Wise—hooray!

In the meantime, you can fantasize about the event—mmmmm.
