Secret location revealed …

barriere

Somewhere among the environs of this place I call home, there is a Saskatoon berry bush; a very large one loaded with berries which will become our dessert for the evening – Saskatoon berry pie, and for tomorrow Saskatoon upside-down cake.  I’ve never had anything made up of these berries, thinking of them as a poor relative of the huckleberry (Barriere’s #1 wild berry treat) which grows on lower bushes around Barriere.  (The only way to find them is to have a friend of a friend who is privy to the well guarded secret.)  You’ll notice I have not passed the secret along to you and that’s because I’ve forgotten the location of them.  If you do get lucky enough to find them, beware of the bears – they like the berries even better than we do.  I had a slice of Saskatoon pie and was quite amazed at how good it is with a taste all its own and a good cook to bake it.  I thought the Saskatoon berry had a real pithy taste – and NO that’s not a bad word!
