So what’s in Mission Library for seniors this fall? There’s good old fashioned books, of course — plus trained staff, waiting to find the perfect book for you. For the more adventurous senior, we have many alternative formats: audiobooks, e-books, music and more!
We also have books in large print, and offer home delivery through our Outreach Department for homebound seniors.
Tech-savvy hobbyists will appreciate our hobbies and crafts reference centre, online articles on popular hobbies, with detailed how-to instructions. Those who love to travel might enjoy our Global Road Warrior Databases, which holds up-to-date travel, culture and communications details and over 1,500 maps.
Not tech-savvy? Our free computer basics and Internet basics classes run Nov. 12 and 26, and are intended for extreme beginners. Internet and word processing computer stations are available every day to practise your computing skills and connect you to the world of friends and ideas.

The library also participated in 2011 Seniors Week, offering a Seniors Tea and Silver Threads Storytelling event. In addition the library has a travelling resource for seniors outreach programs available upon request. These programs are called Lift the Lid, and let groups explore many photographs, songs and stories of days gone by.
Interested in volunteering at the library? If you enjoy reading, you might like to become a Reading Buddy, and spend an hour each week reading with an elementary study struggling with reading. This is very rewarding! Contact Candie Thorne at 604-856-9627 or e-mail gcthorne@telus.net for more information.
Another great volunteer opportunity is to join the Mission Friends of the Library. These are a group of dedicated volunteers who help with programs and fundraising efforts that benefit the library, and would welcome any new members. The Mission Friends of the Library meet at the library at 2 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month.
The library is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Call 604-826-6610 for more information.
