SENIORS’ SCENE: Ice-skating season is here

Ice skating, Remembrance Day, flu clinics and some soulful inspiration are among events and activities taking place this month.

It’s never too late to learn to skate.

Join the adult skate lessons at Centennial Arena on Sundays at 4 p.m. starting Nov. 10. The experienced instructors will provide you with the basic skills; small class size will ensure you get the attention you need.

Skate and helmet rentals are included. Helmets are mandatory.

For experienced skaters, come enjoy a leisurely skate on Wednesdays and Fridays, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Silver Blades 50+ skates.

On Nov. 6, take a break from the blustery weather and enjoy Tea with the Stars – an entertaining movie and cozy afternoon tea.

Les Miserables will be on the big screen in the White Rock Community Centre gallery.

White Rock Leisure Services members can pre-register for $3. Non-members must register on the day of the movie for $5.

Remembrance Day Ceremonies will be held from 9:30 -11:45 a.m, on Nov. 11.

The Royal Canadian Legion White Rock Branch #8 parade starts at Johnston and Roper and finishes at the First United Church on Buena Vista, where a service takes place at 10 a.m. followed by a laying of wreaths at 11 a.m. at the White Rock Cenotaph.

All are welcome to observe the service and pay your respects for those who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. A wreath will be laid at the Cenotaph on behalf of all Kent Street members.

Please note, all White Rock Leisure Services facilities will be closed on Nov. 11, respectfully for Remembrance Day. Offices will re-open on Nov. 12, at 8:30 a.m.

Fraser Health is offering drop-in flu clinics for seniors 65+ and those with chronic health conditions.

Drop in from 9 a.m. to noon to Centennial Park Leisure Centre (14600 North Bluff Rd.) clinic on Thursday, Nov. 14, or First United Church (15385 Semiahmoo) on Monday, Nov. 18. No appointment required.

Please contact Fraser Health at 604-542-4000 for information on other clinics or to book an appointment at their Vine Street location.

Find hope and inspiration during the Kent Street Choristers Concert – Come In Peace – presented at the First United Church on Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Enjoy beautiful chorals and welcome the Christmas season.
