Mehar Kaur Sahota of Khalsa School Old Yale Road won the second place prize in the Spelling Bee of Canada Championship in Toronto on May 16.
With her trophy came a $900 cash prize, books and a toy.
Her Junior category 12th-round tie-breaker was the word “additional.”
She was among six students from B.C. and 50 from across Canada at the competition.
Sahota previously won the championship in 2015 and also won The Spelling Bee Championship organized by the Surrey Newton Rotary Club in 2013.
Harvir Singh Sukhija of Khalsa School Old Yale Road secured fifth place in Toronto, winning a laptop and a consolation prize.
