DOG DAYS

An event titled “Furtographs – Every Dog has his Day” takes place Saturday, Sept. 22 as a fundraiser for the Abbotsford branch of the SPCA. Just Shoot Me Photography Inc. will be at the Valley Feed Bag (2604 Ware St.) for 15-minute dog portrait sessions for a cost of $35, with partial proceeds going to the SPCA. The sessions are by appointment only, which can be arranged by calling 604-613-0098 or emailing liz@justshootmephoto.ca.

MOVIE DAY

RAW FOOD CLASS

GARDEN CLUB

The Abbotsford Garden Club meets Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at The Reach Gallery Museum, 32388 Veterans Way. Debbie Ego of Cannor Nurseries will discuss how to use native plants and ferns in your landscape. GRIEF SUPPORT

The next adult grief support group at the Abbotsford Hospice Society runs from Sept. 25 to Nov. 27. The group runs for 10 weeks every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. There is no charge, but registration is required by calling Tamara Childs at 604-852-2456 or emailing tamara@abbotsfordhospice.org.

BIBLE STUDY

Registration takes place Wednesday, Sept. 26 for a course called “A Precept Bible Study, II Thessalonians” at Central Heights Church (1661 McCallum Rd.). The program runs every Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. and is open to women of all ages. Info: Eleanore at 604-852-1140.

MENTORS’ PROGRAM

The Employment Mentors’ Program of Abbotsford Community Services hosts a free orientation session for newcomers on Thursday, Sept. 27 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at 31726 South Fraser Way. OPEN HOUSE

The Abbotsford Alano Club Society is holding an Open House at its facility located at 2584 Cyril St. , in Abbotsford on Sept. 22 from 1-4 p.m. There will be hot dogs and a corn roast.  The group is trying to promote what it does at the club and get some new people to join. The Abbotsford Alano Club Society is a private non-profit club which is a safe haven for alcoholics/addicts and their family members to come and know that there are no drugs or alcohol on the premises.

RETIREES MEET

The Fraser Valley Branch of the BC Government Retired Employees Association will meet on Monday, Sept. 24 at Trinity Memorial United church, 33737 George Ferguson Way in Abbotsford. COPING WITH LOSS

A seminar called Surviving Chronic Illness and MS is set for Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 7-9 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3845 Gladwin Rd. The scheduled special guest speaker is Dr. Donna Paproski. During her medical career, Dr. Paproski has become  very familiar with the needs and concerns of people and caregivers dealing with MS. Paproski will speak on coping with loss, fatigue management and resiliency. Organizers are asking people to register early for the free workshop as seating is limited.
