Valley View Funeral Home has been awarded the Corporate Community Award by the Police Victim Services of British Columbia, for their Homicide and Suicide Support Groups.
The recognition took place at the Police Victims Services of BC Annual Conference in Burnaby.
IHIT Supt. Kevin Hackett and Sgt. Paul Dadwal presented the award to Justin Schultz and Marlyn Ferguson of Valley View Funeral Home.
“Over the past six years, more than two hundred community members have attended our free support groups to discuss the grieving and healing process,” said Ferguson. “Our families value this open conversation and appreciate the venue to discuss their feelings. One recent attendee said that our support group is the only place they can talk about how they feel.”
In addition to family support, Valley View provides free educational seminars about helping families through the mourning process for the Police Victim Services staff and volunteers, and hospice staff and volunteers.
“This is a great honour for our funeral home, and we are very grateful to the Police Victim Services of British Columbia for recognizing the work we do,” said Ferguson.
