Mark your calendar, June 5. It’s Relay for Life
time and this is the year to shine.
Organizers and participants were thrilled with
the new venue in Baker Creek Park and Relay
for Life chair Deb Burton said they have many
enhancements and improvements over their
inaugural event.
The time is still 5 – 11 p.m. and several of the
elements remain the same such as where the
teams set up their marshalling tents, the entertainment
area, start line for Relay laps and of
course the highly popular Community Dinner
will once again be a featured highlight of this
celebratory event.
“Our team leaders are busy implementing
improvements and forging ahead with proven
winners,” Burton said.
“We’re optimistically and confidently recruiting
new teams and welcoming back our loyal,
dedicated teams who have steadfastly supported
Relay for Life for many years. They are the
backbone of our event not only in their support
of our local cancer warriors, our community
but also vital research.”
Right now is a great time to sign up your team.
Gather together family, friends, co-workers,
fellow students and anyone else willing to spend
just four hours in a very worthy cause.
Signing up early (before March 1) online at
relayforlife.ca also enters you in a draw for an
iPAD. There are five iPADs to win in B.C.
Registration and information packages are
also available at the Info Centre.
Relay for Life – Quesnel Facebook page also
has a link to the online signup as well as the
most up-to-date information on our community-
based Relay event.
The theme this year is Throw Back to the Fifties
and teams and volunteers are encouraged
to dress up for the June 5 event.
“We’re also looking to advance the theme and
spread nostalgia throughout the event site. Great
plans are in the works,” Burton said.
“It would be great if teams carried this theme
in their tent marshalling area and in their costumes.”
Relay for Life – Quesnel is an event where the
community can come together and support each
other in whatever way cancer has touched them.
As a fundraiser, Burton said the goal for
Quesnel is to raise at least $65,000 and hopes
to engage at least 25 teams.

Supporting the fighters
Admiring the survivors
Honouring the fallen
And never giving up hope.

Team comradery abounds on Relay for Life teams; as walkers set off they are encouraged with high fives from the bystanders; the community dinner was a huge hit and will be repeated again this year.
