It is time, once again, to dust off your golf clubs in support of breast cancer research and this year the event has a little added significance.
Each year Team Chase hosts their annual Pink Ribbon Classic Tournament as a way to raise money for their chosen breast cancer charity.
This year the Pink Ribbon Classic Golf Tournament is not only going to be supporting breast cancer research, but the team has decided to dedicate the event to someone very special to them all.
This year’s event is being held in the memory of Sandy McDonald, a member of Team Chase, who passed away last fall.
Team Chase was originally started by a very enthusiastic group of ladies from Chase in March of 2004 to prepare for the first annual Weekend to End Breast Cancer walk in Vancouver.
The group had six walkers and 18 support volunteers who attended the event. Together they were able to raise over $25,000 through various fundraising activities, including a golf tournament, hot dog sales, line dancing performances and the first annual fundraising fashion show.
The group supported the Weekend to End Breast Cancer event for two years and then began supporting the CIBC Run For The Cure for the past six years. During that time they have won the Family & Friends award four different times for most money raised in that division.
Team Chase was able to accomplish this feat thanks, in large part, to two major fundraising activities.
The first being their annual Pink Ribbon Classic Golf tournament held each May, as well as the fashion show which will be held later this fall.
Team Chase has also received tremendous support from various clubs, organizations and individuals in the community who help them reach the fundraising goals they set each year.
The date of this year’s tournament is Sunday, May 5, starting at 2 p.m. and the team has added a number of exciting additions this year. One of these includes a car prize valued at $20,000 for the hole-in-one challenge, thanks to a generous donation from Smith Chev Cadillac in Kamloops.
Team Chase is encouraging anyone who wishes to take part in this year’s event to register early as it fills up very quickly.
